Authentic Italian pizza dough is the heart and soul of every great pizza. Its origins date back to ancient Rome, where unleavened flatbreads were first topped with olive oil and local ingredients. Over centuries, this simple recipe evolved into the beloved pizza we know today. Italians take their pizza dough seriously, and the secret lies in the perfect balance of flour, water, yeast, and patience. With this recipe, you'll create the foundation for a truly Italian pizza experience right in your own kitchen.

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry (Manual Preparation):
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt thoroughly. Gradually add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough to the counter (lightly floured) and knead it for about 7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

(Machine Preparation):
Place the flour and salt into the bowl of a dough mixing machine. Gradually add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Attach the dough hook and set the machine on a low speed initially, gradually increasing to a medium speed as the ingredients blend together to form a dough. Continue to knead with the machine for about 7 to 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Divide and Shape: Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball.

Second Rise: Cover the dough balls with a damp cloth and let them rest for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 473°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet in the oven to heat.

Roll Out and Top: On a lightly floured surface, roll out each dough ball into a 12-inch pizza crust. Add your favorite toppings.

Bake: Carefully transfer the pizza onto the hot pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 14 -15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven, slice, and serve your authentic Italian pizza hot and fresh.

Enjoy the taste of Italy in every bite!
