Comments: Have we yet waxed poetic about the wonders of a good pair of kitchen shears? We're not sure we're up to the task, but a good pair of shears can make your life in the kitchen so much easier. It's the sort of thing you don't notice until you have them, and then you wonder how you ever got along without them. Snip your way through chicken bones, dough, herbs, vegetables, and more, with ease.
These extremely sturdy stainless-steel shears have a notched blade for cutting poultry bones and non-slip, soft handles that provide a secure grip. They have a very heavy-duty spring mechanism so that you only have to apply pressure to cut; they want to spring open after every stroke. This makes them easier to use than conventional scissors, where you have to apply pressure to open them and close them. The blades separate for easy cleaning and lock for safe storage.
The blades are sharp, sharp, sharp, and the edge of one blade has little serrations just below the straight cutting edge, to provide additional traction. As is the case with any good blade, the manufacturer recommends against sending it to dishwasher purgatory, where is will get knocked against other utensils, dulling the edge.
There is a little bonus blade at the base of the handle that can be used as a box cutter to break tape on sealed boxes and cartons.
Take note that we mentioned "good" shears in the first sentence. There are any number of lousy ones on the market (perhaps some in a drawer near you), and they are sure to disappoint and languish unused. Invest in a good or great pair (like these), and you'll get years of solid use from them.
