Comments: Even if you decorate a cake very rarely, having a turntable is an undeniable aid – there is nothing like having fair access to all bits of your cake.
The top turns nicely in either direction on ball bearings, but can be locked in place at any point, allowing you to focus on an area without fear that the cake will start turning when you least expect it. It has a non-slip surface to hold your cake board in place (not the naked cake, which would just make a mess).
With a cake as large as 11 inches, you will still be able to see the platform. It can support a larger cake, but it becomes a little more unwieldy. It comes apart easily for cleaning, and, in the world of cake stands, it is very economical. Yes, it takes up a certain amount of space, but most useful things do.
Our one complaint is that the finger indentation on the locking tab could be deeper. It's a little hard for us to get enough leverage to pull out the tab and lock the top. Pushing it in to unlock is easier. It seems to be loosening up with use (or maybe our fingers are getting stronger!), so perhaps if we decorate a few more cakes, this issue will resolve itself.
