Comments: The Skrapr is billed as "the ultimate utility tool," which works on all smooth surfaces such as glass, ceramics, aluminum, stainless steel and marble. In the kitchen, it is touted as the perfect tool for cleaning a glass top stove, as well as for removing spills and baked-on residue from grills, griddles, countertops, and crusty pans.
The manufacturer says it won't scratch any surface, but that's because of the flat blade. In our experience, baked-on food is hardest to get at in the corners and crevices of pots and pans, and here, the Skrapr, with relatively sharp edges at either end of the blade is as limited as any other sharp object you might use. It is meant to work on flat surfaces. Made of composite resins, it is impervious to mildew and bacteria.
The instructions and a small round bit of sandpaper are hidden in a cavity in the cap of the packaging, and we are pretty sure more than 47% of customers will never find them. Fortunately the instructions are unnecessary. The sandpaper is for restoring the Skrapr's edge if it ever becomes damaged or dull.
Beyond the kitchen, the Skrapr will remove paint from hardwood floors, scrape ice from a car windshield, and, in its promotional video, is shown removing dirt from the treads of an earthmover. We would be a little hard-put to use it in the kitchen after working on an earthmover, even after a few runs through the dishwasher, but that's just us.
The package we got included a baby Skrapr on a key chain (4 inches long, with a 7/8-inch blade). Perhaps you could use that on your earthmover and keep the larger one pristine for use in the kitchen. Or vice versa – we find the key ring handy for hanging it from a hook.
