Comments: First of all, the instructions are hidden inside, so don't even think of filling this with olive oil until you've rescued the instructions. (There's a little sticker on top that tells you the instructions are inside, but the sticker is a little hard to believe. Also, the instructions are wound so tightly around a little hose that it takes about a month to unroll them, but that's just part of the fun of buying a new kitchen toy….)
This is all about adding a light coat of something. You can use this non-aerosol mister for olive oil or any oil to spray a pan before you use it or to spray a fine mist of oil on vegetables, meats, fish, or another food before you place it on the grill or in a hot pan. You can use it to lightly coat a salad or other food with a vinaigrette or other dressing. We know of people who use it to spray a flavoring oil lightly over their popcorn. You can also fill it with water and mist your plants, while you play them recordings of Mozart.
To use, fill the mister no more than half full, pump the removable top 10 or 15 times to create internal pressure, then press the spray button to release the contents in a fine mist. A filter keeps small food particles and seeds from clogging the sprayer, if you are using a flavored oil or dressing.
To clean, the instructions call for you to fill it half full of hot water and a drop of dish detergent, pump 10 times, then spray for 10 seconds. Rinse it by emptying the soapy water and running clean water through it by spraying for 10 seconds. It's not that it is hard to clean, but we are skeptical that a few sprays are going to eradicate every hint of some highly flavored oil. We are a little more inclined to dedicate our pump to one use – say spraying plain oil – and get another sprayer for dressing salads or another flavored use.
