Comments: Not in a thousand years would we admit to draining water from a can of tuna by pressing the cut lid into the can and squeezing tightly until most of the water is forced out. How unsanitary! Do you know where that can has been?!? How dangerous! That lid is sharp!
But we have a "friend" who got into trouble with this method when using a new "smooth-edge" can opener that cuts through the edge of the crimped lid, producing a safe lid that is too big around to fit into the opened can. "How am I going to get this lid inside the can," our friend thought?
Well, you can immediately see the utility of this new can drainer, the use of which extends way beyond tuna. It has three inner rings to keep a variety of standard-sized cans from slipping while you drain them. Depending on which way you hold it, the drainer has a convex surface, which we have found useful for applying pressure to tuna so that it drains more thoroughly than simply using gravity (although we're officially using the drainer upside-down when we do this).
The drainer has raised walls on the inside prevent liquid from dripping on your hands; the clear construction lets you see the placement of the can in the ring; the curved surface (right side-up) allows you to shake items during draining to release as much liquid as possible; and silicone on the handles provides a non-slip surface that is easy to grip
If you have a "friend" who still drains cans of tuna with the lid, you might gracefully point him or her toward this drainer.
As for us, we know we're supposed to prefer tuna packed in oil. What do you think we are – barbarians???
