Comments: This sturdy squeezer incorporates a large bowl for squeezing lemons and a plate in the middle with a smaller bowl that folds down for squeezing limes. Whether you use one half or the other is not technically defined by which fruit is which, but by how big it is. You might prefer to squeeze small lemons on the smaller lime side. The bigger the fruit, the further you have to open the handles and the more pressure you have to exert. Particularly huge lemons might be hard to squeeze in any event.
We thought the squeezer performed admirably, and with so much less mess than the reamers that have been all the rage in the past few years. The strainer caught all the seeds, and the lemons and limes were nearly drained of all their juice (after sitting for a few minutes they could be coaxed to give up a few more drops, but they were nearly squeezed dry the first time around.)
We squeezed a few limes that were apparently waxed, and had a dickens of a time getting the residue from the peel off the inside of the squeezer. It did not come off in the dishwasher and eventually took a bit of old-fashioned rubbing to get it off. Fortunately the enameled finish can handle plenty of old-fashioned rubbing. We might take more care to wash the fruit before our next squeezing.
